The quaint and sometimes-quiet village of Clunes, in the Northern Rivers region of NSW, is home to Uncle Peter’s Books—a second-hand bookshop with a rich history of thirty years.

Back in 1997, in a room at the rear of a craft shop in the small heritage village of Bangalow, Kath and Russell Barker opened Uncle Peter’s Books. It was named after Russell’s uncle, Peter Radford, a well-known English bibliophile.

In April 1998 the bookshop moved into the Bangalow Post Office, sharing the space with postmaster Terry Bleakley’s Post Office business. Uncle Peter’s Books quickly gained a reputation as an excellent second-hand bookshop.

After eleven years Uncle Peter’s Books moved to the neighbouring town of Lismore and enjoyed the hustle and bustle of the CBD from 2008 until 2014.

The time came to set down foundations. Uncle Peter’s Books opened its door on the Main Street of Clunes in May 2014. This new home became a congregation point for community. Whilst understated, it has also has managed to establish a reputation from far and wide for visitors to find quality books and eclectic goodies.

Our customers say that Uncle Peter’s Books is so quaint and quirky that you couldn’t find another version quite the same.

It’s a collectors’ edition in itself.
